The committee are celebrating after Shutlanger Village Hall was awarded forty-eight thousand pounds in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
The funding will contribute to to the re-roofing of this historic 138-year-old building and make a significant difference to the local community. The total roof project requires almost £80,000 but with local fundraising efforts and this award from the National Lottery it means that Shutlanger Village Hall can provide a watertight space for community events for years to come.
Work on this major project will start early in 2023. Shutlanger Village Hall has already undergone two years of extensive repairs from the essential rainproofing of the clock tower, renewed drains, heating and lighting and decoration throughout. This new funding not only gives the historic village hall a fresh lease of life but the opportunity to remain an essential community hub for future generations.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Shutlanger Village Hall’s Project Manager, Julia Lindsay says “Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, this grant means that we can push forward and complete our goal in making the building weatherproof, well insulated and continue to improve our cherished Village Hall which will make a big difference to people’s lives. There is more to be done in terms of fundraising but we are confident that with this grant, and the backing of our community, we will meet our project’s financial target. ”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
